Lillian Henry is a Lexington, South Carolina native and recent 2025 graduate from Samford University with a BFA in Studio Art.
Her work as an artist explores the intersection of her personal experience growing up as a woman in the South with religious and philosophical themes, particularly as they relate to shame, purity culture, and gender roles. Using oil paint allows her to create texture and dimension where she can mix my own unique colors to reflect the nuances of these themes with a forgiving medium.
In her sculpture works, she embraces the organic process of working with her hands, allowing each piece to evolve without rigid planning. She likes her work to leave room for mystery and wonder for her audience.
While she hopes her work resonates with others, she also loves the moments when her work leaves people confused, prompting deeper thought and reflection.
